Blood pressure screenings for adults will be done on Sunday July 25th from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. and also following the worship service, in the church library.  The registered nurses providing the screenings will be Ineke Fuge, Linda Slonaker, and Sarah Sayre.

Please wear clothing in which you upper arm is easily accessible to the screeners.

If you have suggestions or comments regarding this program please share them with Ineke, Linda or Sarah.  We look forward to hearing from you.  Your input will help us in evaluating whether this is a service of interest to you.

There are many health/wellness educational opportunities that this kind of program could also expand into.  Therefore, we would be looking for other helpers and personnel to assist with this program in the future.  So share you thoughts and ideas with Ineke, Linda, and Sarah – we look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome Back Sunday

‘Welcome Back Sunday’ is set for Sunday, September 12th.  Mark your calendar and keep watching for more details.

Attention Cabbage Roll Lovers!

If you are a cabbage roll lover, you might want to reserve Saturday evening, September 25, 2010 as a special time on your social calendar as our Women’s Fellowship has chosen that date for our Fall Fundraiser – a homemade cabbage roll dinner!  This is a “FIRST” for our church as we’ve never had a cabbage roll dinner as a fundraiser, and we know you’ll not want to miss it.                         Phyllis Gass, WF Secretary

Rummage Sale

On Saturday, October 16th will be a 1 day rummage sale, put on by the Church Camp kids & parents.  So if you’re cleaning this summer and have items you want to get rid of please bring them to the church for our Rummage Sale.

Community Outreach

“TOILETRIES FOR TROY” IS BACK!

Several years ago, we had a community outreach project called “Toiletries for Troy” in which we asked for donations of toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. which we donated to the First Place Food Pantry.  Well, we are going to do a “rerun” of Toiletries for Troy, only THIS time it’s for those who come to Partners in Hope for assistance.  Since I am our church’s representative on the PIH Executive Board, it is my responsibility to ask our church to participate in the Partners in Hope projects.  Therefore, during the MONTH OF JULY, I am asking our church members to donate the following items which are always in demand by our needy neighbors:  Diapers (all sizes), paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, dish detergent, bath soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes.  Diapers are desperately needed as are the paper products and toiletry items as none of them can be purchased with food stamps.  There will be baskets in the three entryways in which you can place your donations DURING JULY ONLY!  As always, on behalf of Partners in Hope and those less fortunate who go to PIH for help and from me as our church’s representative to PIH, many, many thanks for your always generous donations to our community outreach projects.                                       Phyllis Gass, Representative to PIH

Help Children Services

The Miami County Children’s Services needs actual backpacks for children returning to school in the fall. Old or new will do.  Please bring to church office or marked box in parlor.  Thanks for your help!

Help FISH!

The FISH organization is in need of telephone volunteers. FISH is an organization that assists the needy in our community. Volunteers are asked to monitor the FISH voice mail system one day out of the month. The volunteer is expected to check the system throughout the day and respond to the caller to find out the need for help, and then contact a FISH coordinator with the information. Volunteers are completely anonymous and in no way will the volunteer’s phone number be made public to callers. If something comes up and the volunteer is not available on that particular day, just call a coordinator. It is very simple and terrific way to support the community and serve. Please call Tam Schuller for more information at 335-2826 or 339-4110.

Thank you in advance for supporting the FISH Organization.

Eva Marie Rieck, FISH Board of Directors

Library News

The following donations have been made to our church library by Marge Knife:"Snickers from the Front Pew (Confessions from Two Preacher's Kids)" and "Mischief from the Back Pew (And You Thought You Were Safe in Church)"

Whether or not you were raised in the church, you will enjoy these humorous stories - the perfect "light reading "escape from everyday stress!

Also donated to the library by Sharon Cooper: "The Christmas Bus" - a wonderful story with a timeless message about hospitality.

If you have books that you have enjoyed and would like to donate, please drop them by the library.  And, if you haven't yet discovered the "hidden treasure" that is our church library - come check us out!

Julie Welbaum, Kimberly Antonides and Linda Christie
